Spring Brook Farm
We are David & Beth Taylor
Back in 1995 we decided we were going to need a calm place where we could retire some day, grow old together and play with the grandkids. So we started looking for some unimproved farmland to buy, prices per acre were not going to get cheaper, and we were afraid if we waited we would not be able to afford to buy farmland at all. We walked quite a few properties and in 1999 we found this place in Carrollton. The field that now has Christmas Trees was then full of briars and kudzu at least 10' tall.
With the help of our friends we cleaned that field and as grass began to grow, Beth said, "Wouldn't it be nice to grow a few Christmas Trees for our kids and friends?" I said, "If we're going to go to that much trouble we might as well make a business of it." We had no clue how to grow trees or what we could grow and after some research we discovered there was and is a Georgia Christmas Tree Association. We joined and learned something different from each member. Most was learned during farm tours at association meetings and new grower's seminars at Charles Berry's farm.
We planted trees with the help of our friends and after many spurts and starts the trees began to grow. Our first selling season was in 2004. Beth was sure no one would come to our farm to buy a tree but when I opened the gate at 9:00 AM on Thanksgiving Day our first customer drove in. She was so excited I doubted she could contain herself.
Sadly, my Beth passed away in 2005 and left me to carry on. And I still do with the help of local young adults from West Georgia University and the local high schools. We all have a lot of fun with all of the families that come to see us ever year and we are looking forward to another great year this year.
I hope to see you there.
Dave
